Growing
Today DD1 "graduated" from kindergarten. She performed in a small Christmas concert and had a party to celebrate the year at kinder. What an amazing transformation from the shy little girl of 12 months ago. No longer trying to disappear in the group so no-one would look at her, she was brimming with confidence. Her smile said it all. What a beautiful day.

Sunrise
Image by The Journeyer via FlickrI have been trying to get up early to take a walk a couple of times a week. This morning was a real struggle to get out of bed. As I got to the end of our street I was so glad I'd made the effort though. I was greated by the most gorgeous sunrise. The whole sky was a magnificent orange/pink colour. It was just beautiful.

Holidays
Image by MariClick via Flickr Not long now until we head off on holidays. I find myself daydreaming of what we will do and how I will relax while we're away. Everyone really enjoys our trips in the caravan and this one is going to be no different.
We put the van up on the weekend and the kids spent nearly two days playing in there. They're also busy imagining what we'll be doing and where we're going as well.

Finding my way
I'm so proud of myself for completing the 30 Day Challenge. Usually I would start off OK on a project like this, then begin fiddling and doing things "my way" before letting the project slide. I think my success was due in no small part to being part of the wonderful Team Lightening. The fact that I can see this training leading to a way for me to work from home also contributed a great deal.
Go me!

Simple pleasures
Gosh, I haven't been here for a little while. I've been busy trying to get some sort of an editorial scheduled (sounds very professional, doesn't it?) going for Journeyer's Chronicles and doing committee work.
So over the last week or so, I've been smiling a lot about the kids. They are all so different, with their own little idiosyncrasies.

- DS (7) has developed an obsession for football that sees him playing, watching or reading about it at almost every opportunity.
- DD (5) is really coming out of her shell at kinder and is participating in show and tell now - a great step forward.
- DD (3) has been spending a lot of time at kinder with me while I take care of my committee duties. She has absolutely NO problems with her self-confidence. She is making friends and entertaining the teachers with her stories and antics.

Vegie gardens
We received our latest Diggers Club catalogue during the week. Everyone in the family has been pouring over it, choosing which seeds we should buy for our soon to be made (this weekend) vegie garden. All the vegies look so yummy and surprisingly, the catalogue indicates that most of them will grow here. We'll have to wait and see.

The Wizard of Oz
Tonight we're watching The Wizard of Oz. I don't think I've seen it since I was a little girl. I enjoyed the songs and colours then. Considering when the movie was made, the special effects are just amazing. It's better this time around though because I can watch it without leaving the room or putting my hands over my eyes every time The Wicked Witch of the West comes on! I've also realised that the characters in the black and white portion at the start of the film are the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and Lion.

Birthday smiles
Image via WikipediaToday is our son's 7th birthday. The look on his face this morning when he opened his presents to reveal Lego's was worth being woken at 5:45am for. He has spent the entire day building new Indiana Jones creations. I have even had to remind him to eat breakfast and lunch (unheard of).
Why do I always wonder what to buy for him. Legos win hands down every time.

Peas!
Tonight we picked our first peas from our little container vegie garden and ate them for dinner. Miss 5 was very excited and did the shelling. We didn't get very many each by the time they were split up between the five of us. But they were delicious, even more so being our first homegrown vegies.

Being productive
I have been listening to a lot of productivity books lately. Yesterday I decided to put some of what I've been listening to into action. I wrote down my to do list and throughout the day I kept asking myself
What is the best use of my time right now?I got so much done. Best of all, a lot of it was stuff I'd been procrastinating on for ages. Go me!

Roses
I pruned our roses today. It is probably a little late for rose pruning, but that one of the reasons they're great plants. They'll pretty much take whatever you do (or don't do) to them and still give you a bunch of lovely blooms come spring.
I'd forgotten how much I enjoy pruning roses. There's something about it that I find very calming and relaxing (apart from one nasty incident with some thorns). Our roses are now looking very structured and ready for their spring burst of growth.

Blogging
I seem to have found a schedule that works for me on Journeyer's Chronicles. My schedule for last week was quite workable and I was able to get what I wanted done in much less time than I was previously taking. Lucky, as it's school holidays :-)

Imagination
Our 3yo daughter has the most amazing imagination. She entertains us daylong with her stories, games and imaginary snacks. I sometimes wonder where it all comes from.

Home Sweet Home
The wind is howling outside. It's freezing and the rain is coming in sideways. The kids and I are still in our snuggly jammies. The house is warm. We don't need to be anywhere today. Lovely, lazy holidays.

Lovely Phone Calls
My husband rings me from work most days, just to say "Hi" and check how I'm going. He reminded me tonight that he calls me because he cares about me. How lovely is that? Sometimes I take his calls for granted. I'll try and be more mindful of the reason for them from now on.
